Stop putting too much pressure on
One theme that crops up time and time again when I talk to my clients and business owners is ‘the constant need to do more’. It seems to me like there are a lot of people out there thinking that ‘good’ is not enough. If you want my honest opinion, I think you’re doing great, and you just need to cut yourself some slack.
If you feel like you may be putting yourself under unnecessary pressure to continually achieve great things, then take just a minute out of your day to read this blog and learn how best to manage these feelings.
Some pressure can actually help us
This drive to push ourselves to do that little bit more can be a good thing. It's what makes us entrepreneurial types deliver great things. It helps our businesses grow. It empowers us to make an impact.
Recognising when pressure is not healthy
But when the driver is one of scarcity not abundance, you’re going to feel exhausted, and this just isn’t sustainable. It’s like you’re using the carrot and the stick metaphor but in reverse.
Spending time worrying about what is lacking will always result in upset and negativity. So, what should we be doing instead?
You need to shift your focus to what you do have. Shift your focus from scarcity to abundance. Forget about what you don’t have much of, and embrace the things that you do have.
This positive mindset enables us to live our lives more fully and this positivity will attract the right people, you’ll see growth in your business, and above all else, you’ll enjoy your journey.
6 ways to achieve this mindset
1) Invite the energy in. Establish what zaps you of energy and what boosts it.
2) Establish firm affirmations and recognise the good things in your life.
3) Set intentions. Write them down and visualise them coming to life.
4) Accept your level of control. Don’t dwell on the things that you can’t control instead control what you can.
5) Be optimistic. Appreciate the things that go well for you.
7) Nurture and use your network. Make sure to surround yourself with people who are important to you.
Conclusion
When you’re feeling like you’re not doing enough – or you’re not enough, switch those thoughts to focus on what you do have and what you’re great at. And remember to reach out to your network – they’ll tell you just how amazing you are.
My final take-away thought is to always think carrot, not the stick.
