More haste, less speed
As a child what’s the worst that could happen when rushing? Maybe you trip and scuff your knee or forget to take your gym bag to school. There was always a consequence, but not one that lasted long.
As a leader, or business owner, the consequences can be damaging.
The need for speed!
It’s easy to get caught up in today’s busy world. With a never-ending to-do list, getting things done quickly can seem like the only course of action.
But in truth, rushing can actually add unnecessary time to our day, and mistakes could even cost you a client, or the goodwill of a team member
Can you relate to this?
• Do you find yourself rushing?
• Do you regularly reply to an email or a text without giving it much thought?
• Do you hurriedly put a social media post together and press ‘publish’ without reading it twice?
Think about the responses you gave to these three questions. How do they make you feel? I bet you don’t feel great.
You’ll be pleased to learn that there are tools and techniques that you can practice to bring calm to your life. And they can even help you strengthen your relationships with others!
Being available 24/7
Do you feel as if you need to respond immediately? You do? Can I ask you why?
If you answered with ‘I don’t know really’, you’re not alone. Rushing has become a modern habit.
Believe me, being this responsive is not the most professional, or healthy approach? Your clients, colleagues, friends, and your family will appreciate a more focussed response as opposed to one that was rushed.
The value in slowing down
When we pause and focus on our actions, we inject more thought and bring quality to them.
Instead of reacting immediately it’s perfectly okay to wait a while. And in this time, digest what is being asked of you and reflect on the optimum response. Only when you’re ready should you construct a meaningful and thoughtful reply.
